Works are continuing remotely to construct Faith Schools boys & disabled latrine with Engineers for Overseas Development Cardiff. Remotely managed by Tara Sirati, Odeke Michael our site manager and his team are working to build the cubicle walls. The structure provides 1 disabled and 4 abled Ecosans toilets for the school, providing a sustainable structure for waste disposal.
This isn't the first time EFOD Cardiff have done remote construction supervision. During Covid when there was limited work available in the region, the site team were instructed to begin works on what would be the first classrooms for the new site. This method of construction was later written up and published on the Institute of Civil Engineers by Olivia Spinola Richards.
The walls, which are constructed from interlocking soil stabalised bricks (ISSB's) manufactured on site, will once completed by rendered to protect them from the elements. Once the walls are up to full height a concrete ring beam will be constructed to stabalise and tie the brick walls together. These bricks are also key for providing edge protection around the perimeter of the elevated structure.
All of this is made possible by the Wales & Africa (WCAV) grant who have provided a finances to help construct this structure with the help of Welsh engineers.
Well done! Great stuff. Paul Jowitt, former ICE President
